Minister Ritz Makes Case in Washington to End U.S. Country of Origin Labelling Dispute
Today, Agriculture Minister Ritz held meetings with members of the U.S. Congress, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and U.S. and Canadian industry representatives in Washington D.C. on the subject of mandatory Country of Origin Labelling (COOL). Minister Ritz continued to pressure key members of the U.S. Government to put an end to mandatory COOL, which continues to hurt producers and processors on both sides of the border.
North Atlantic Refining Limited Fined $100,000 for Fisheries Act Violation
North Atlantic Refining Limited (NARL) of Newfoundland and Labrador was sentenced to pay $100,000 in St. John's Provincial Court after pleading guilty to violating the Fisheries Act. The penalty includes a $25,000 fine. The remaining $75,000 will go to the Environmental Damages Fund.
New Heritage Lighthouse Designation Point Amour Heritage Lighthouse
The Government of Canada today announced the designation of Point Amour lighthouse as a heritage lighthouse under Canada's Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act. Located in L'Anse–Amour, Newfoundland and Labrador, this lighthouse is considered an Atlantic icon.
